Information
When not dressed up like the nemesis of Nice, he wears a black button up shirt with short cuffs, black slacks, and red vest. Instead of the typical white or black socks, he sports golden socks on occasion.
His villain attire is a full bodysuit that is varying shades of black in color. He wears a mask with a crooked arrow on it, symbolizing how his borrowed powers look when he manifests them. A bold yellow line goes vertically up the front of his suit to keep with the arrow theme, and a single golden arrow on his belt. His arms are protected by black gauntlets that have a red crystal inlaid in them, the same crystal that is imbedded in his sword. Wreck also wears a medium, waist-length yellow cape that resembles an arrow as well black boots that come up to just below his knee, as well as black knee guards with yellow accents.
Both outfits incorporate a diamond-shaped red crystal, with both his casual outfit and his villain outfit designed to mirror and support the hero Nice's white and golden attire.

Despite his dream of becoming a hero, Wreck ultimately set aside his dream to play the nemesis to Nice's hero. In a roundabout way, he felt that he was achieving the same result. Wreck would play the bad guy terrorizing the city and Nice would swoop in and save the day. Every defeat for Wreck was a win for Nice and another boost in Nice's Trust Value. The more Trust and belief Nice had from the people, the stronger Nice would become, and eventually, Nice wouldn't need their staged fights anymore; he'd be a real hero of the people. And then, perhaps, Nice would be able to help Wreck build his own trust and become a hero in his own right.
And so, Wreck played his role dutifully for the sake of Nice, justifying that in boosting Nice into a strong hero, the city would be better protected in the future. He tolerated each loss, some more brutal than others, because to Wreck, the end justified the means.
Although he allowed himself to be Nice's stepping stone into the spotlight of herohood, Wreck never allowed it to tarnish the friendship he had with Nice. They still hung out together outside of work, drinking and laughing together on a regular basis.
During 41 AC, Nice disappears for weeks without any prior notice, and Wreck becomes increasingly concerned. To the public, Nice is simply focusing on training or spending alone time with his girlfriend Moon. To Wreck, though, it feels like abandonment. Rather than bitterness, Wreck feels despair that his best friend suddenly stopped talking to him without any explanation. He calls their manager persistently to try to get in contact with Nice, but he's turned down every time. It's only when he sees Lin Ling "disguised" as Nice together with Moon on True Love Recipe that he finally becomes angry, thinking that Nice intentionally left him behind to live his life as a hero now that he "made it" and no longer needed him.
Outside of his role with Treeman, Wreck is fairly laid back. He is able to laugh and joke, and doesn't mind teasing Nice if it gets him to sulk. Even though his work is staged and everything is fake aside from his "superhero" abilities, Wreck still takes pride in what he does because his staged failure as a villain makes Nice a stronger hero, which can only lead to Nice better protecting the public from the real villains... someday.
He's someone who might like to be in the spotlight, but doesn't mind stepping into the shadows for the greater good, or for the sake of friendship. He even gave up his own dream of becoming a hero for Nice's sake, although he probably felt the chances of another agency signing them both as heroes, while a non-zero possibility, was still pretty low. Better to boost Nice than trying to find another agency to sign them both on together.
Because he got his start as an idol under Treeman, Wreck was exposed to the entertainment industry early on in his life. An industry that is essentially a game of inches, where small sacrifices are expected, and eventually those small sacrifices morph into larger sacrifices. With Treeman both working as a media corporation and a hero agency (on top of real estate), those same practices would be used in both segments. Wreck worked under Treeman for 6 years at minimum and was most likely desensitized to bits and pieces of the darker side of the industry.
TW: Suicide
As a teenager, Wreck was signed on together with Nice to Treeman Corporation the same year it was founded. Initially starting out as idols, the two of them completed Treeman's hero training program and, within one year of signing on, were given contracts with new roles to play. However, their roles were different, and Wreck was cast into the role of a "villainous nemesis" meant to oppose Nice, who would play the "perfect hero." Because he wanted to support Nice, Wreck set his own dream of becoming a hero aside in order to help build Nice's reputation as a hero instead.
Having started his career as an idol prior to signing a contract as Nice's on-screen nemesis, Wreck was no stranger to the cutthroat nature of the entertainment industry and was most likely unsurprised at the way in which it bore similarities to the hero industry. Similarly, he wasn't shocked about being given scripts to perform fake fights with Nice in front of crowds. Just like the entertainment industry, the world of heroes also heavily relied on smoke and mirrors; a single scandal could sink your entire career just as a well-placed heroic deed could skyrocket you into the Top Ten.
Wreck and Nice would train together, practicing their choreography that drew heavily from ballet to make their staged fights showier and flashier. The two would don similar outfits that contrasted in color, with Wreck using his borrowed (most likely based primarily on Fear) powers of matter manipulation to carefully reshape buildings and the surrounding area. Wreck would place civilians in just enough danger so that Nice could swoop in, save the person, and perform their staged fight choreography together.
They did this together for six years. Nice would win every time, of course. He had to. Nice was the hero, and Wreck was the villain.
Despite their different roles, Wreck was at his happiest when he was together with Nice. They would often meet up to drink and unwind after spending the day performing. Eventually, Nice reached the top 100 heroes and was asked to move into the Hero Tower with the other highly ranked heroes. As Nice's popularity soared, the need for Wreck serving as Nice's nemesis became less and less, although he would still have his staged fights with Nice every so often.
Unbeknownst to Wreck, Nice's deteriorating mental health under Treeman's CEO Shand eventually caused Nice to more or less withdraw from the public eye. This started around 39 AC, after the Ruins Incident, but Nice withdrew from the public entirely in 40 AC after Nice's childhood hero, Smile, was killed. Nice never shared the details of what was going on behind the scenes with Wreck, who at best only knew what the public knew about Smile's death.
One day in 41 AC, Nice stopped responding to his messages entirely. Wreck followed up with their manager at the time, Miss J, who declined letting him speak with or visit Nice. At least several weeks of silence went by until Wreck saw Nice on TV. Seeing Nice suddenly call Moon his goddess was incredibly upsetting, and it seemed as if Nice had seemingly abandoned him entirely.
Miss J finally gave Wreck a part to play for Nice a month after Nice's televised appearance on True Love Recipe. The script was simple: crash the wedding between Nice and Moon, then attack Moon in such a way that she'd be able to activate a blood pack and fake her death. However, when he arrived at the venue, Wreck became immediately suspicious of the identity of the man in front him claiming to be Nice. Ignoring the script, Wreck worked to separate Nice from Moon so they could finally talk. Nice seemed confused, even as Wreck grilled him on why Nice had stopped answering his calls, texts and emails. Frustrated that Moon kept intervening and trying to fake her death, Wreck eventually used his geomancy powers to elevate himself and Nice high into the sky above the clouds where no one would intervene.
Finally in private with Nice, Wreck demanded to know what happened to Nice -- the real Nice. When Wreck was met with confusion and a declaration that the other man was in fact Nice, Wreck ripped off his own mask in protest. He had known from the moment "Nice" opened his mouth that he wasn't the Nice that Wreck had known for over six years, a suspicion further fueled by the small differences in how Nice had been fighting with him.
Wreck presses him further, even as Moon teleports to Nice's side to reinitiate their staged fight. Annoyed, Wreck grabs Moon by her ankle and slams her to the ground, threatening to kill her if he doesn't get his answers. Finally, Nice admits that he isn't the same Nice, that the real Nice died by suicide.
It suddenly clicks then why Nice hadn't responded to him for weeks. Distraught, Wreck resumes the fight, taking on both Moon and Nice's replacement, Lin Ling. Moon and Lin Ling work well together, and eventually, Lin Ling punches Wreck hard enough to make him fall from the raised architecture he himself had created.
Although the last thing he sees on the way down is Nice's replacement, he smiles none the less as he realizes his dream of being a hero together with Nice had shattered long ago, hurdling downward just as the real Nice had done weeks ago.
With a fighting style heavily rooted in both dance and martial arts, Wreck is fairly proficient at hand-to-hand combat, able to take on both Moon and Lin Ling fairly well. He performs it regularly in his staged fights with Nice.
A power most likely using controlled Fear instead of a Trust Value, Wreck is able to manipulate matter in ways that suit his staged fights with Nice. He is able to reshape skyscrapers like Tetris blocks in a matter of seconds.
In addition to his ability to manipulate matter, Wreck has impressive control over the earth itself. He is able to raise staggeringly tall pillars of earth that reach even above the clouds.
His sword is part of his staged fights with Nice. It helps him channel his energy in a way that allows him to both manipulate matter and also create energy beams as a weapon, and is most likely the source of his power.

Because of Wreck's canon point, when he arrived in the Unfinished Library, he had assumed that Nice was actually Lin Ling still stuck looking like Nice. It took a lot of convincing to make Wreck understand that this Nice was, in fact, his best friend who'd "gone missing."

Upon X's arrival to the library, his nametag was so defaced that all that was legible was the letter X. Even when he had introduced himself to Wreck, mysterious sounds actually prevented X from sharing his real identiy.
After what happened back home, Wreck has 0 interest in fighting X. If anything, he's impressed that X is seriously thinking of quitting being the top hero.

Wreck met Murderbot with the first group of arrivals who came to the Library, although he hasn't yet learned his name. He's very puzzled by Murderbot's behavior, given how inclined he is to stare at the wall like a punished child, but Wreck also understands it's none of his business. If someone wants to stare at a wall, they can.

Meeting initially through a message Hikaru posted on the bulletin board, Wreck took interest in the alleged arcane magic lessons being offered. Reading that the year for Hikaru was apparently 2047 AD was a little alarming for Wreck. Apparently, Hikaru was trapped in a video game and his appearance is that of his avatar.

To provide a bit more information on the world, a little over 40 years ago, the world discovered Trust, which is basically "clap your hands if you believe" magic. Basically, in order to benefit from Trust, not only do you have to believe in yourself but someone else also has to believe in you. Depending on how you portray yourself and/or the media portrays you, you can end up with different powers that can, but not always, have drawbacks.
Some examples of Trust manifesting as superpowers are:
1. Firm Man, a firefighter who supported a collapsing building to save a little girl. The public's belief gave him the power of super strength. However, because they saw him as someone who could stand strong, it came with the drawback of never being able to bend or kneel. He became physically incapable of lowering himself more than a few centimeters, and always had to remain upright, even to sleep.
2. Smile, a typical hero with the ability of flight and super strength. He was someone who wanted to bring joy to everyone and used a smile to do it. The public did find joy in his smile, and because of that, it's his smile that brings him his strength. In order to remain at his strongest, Smile must wear a smile on his face. If it slips, even for a moment, his power weakens significantly. Because of this, he feels obligated to always wear a smile, to the point where his face is kind of stuck like that.
The hero industry has agencies to keep heroes in check so that no one gains so much Trust that they become godlike. There are some agencies like Treeman who opt for the PR approach, to the point of staging events to make their signed heroes more appealing.
Warning! This history section has mentions of suicide.
As for Wreck, he was a teenage idol in a program which basically served as a hero-in-training program. He, together with his best friend Nice, were signed on with Treeman at around 18. Treeman is one of the hero agencies that cares more about PR than actually doing hero work, and so the contracts they received were different. Nice was scripted to be the hero, and Wreck would be the villain and Nice's nemesis.
They signed their contracts, and for 6 years they staged their fights in which Wreck was contractually obligated to lose while putting on a flashy fight to make Nice look better.
Wreck was content with this arrangement, despite it meaning he was throwing away his career as an idol as well as his identity, although that was probably for the better considering he'd be spending 6 years menacing the general public and getting his ass handed to him by Nice on a regular basis.
Everything was fine, up until about a year prior to the present timeline, when Hero Smile died. It was that event which triggered Nice's withdrawal from the public. This meant Wreck wouldn't be able to perform their staged fights with Nice, which severely cut down on how much he'd actually be able to see Nice.
And eventually, about two months prior to the most present timeline in 41 AC, Nice stopped responding to Wreck's outreaches entirely.
Wreck persistently called their manager in hopes of at least finding out how Nice was doing, but Miss J never told him anything. Eventually, he saw Nice on television calling his PR girlfriend Moon his "goddess" suddenly, which in the moment felt like a complete betrayal. To Wreck, it felt like he'd spent 6 years building up Nice's reputation, only for Nice to apparently throw him away like trash when he was no longer needed.
About a month after Nice's televised appearance, his first since Smile's death, Miss J finally called him and gave him a new script. He was to come crash (fake) Nice's fake wedding with his fake girlfriend so his fake girlfriend would fake die and get out of her very real contract.
Wreck agreed because it meant he'd finally get to see Nice in person, and he could hopefully get answers to why Nice had been ignoring him.
When he arrived in his villain attire to crash said wedding, he was thrown off by the Nice at the altar. From the moment Nice had opened his mouth, something felt off. Then, when they began their staged fight, it felt like the person he was fighting wasn't Nice at all.
Wreck worked to separate Nice from Moon to get answers, but when Moon kept intervening because she really wanted to fake die, Wreck became frustrated and used geomancy to elevate the two of them high up above the clouds. After some back and forth, Wreck demanded to know what happened to the real Nice.
CW for suicide - click to show
"Nice" told him that the real Nice was dead, further adding that Nice committed suicide. Then it clicked. The reason why Nice had gone so radio silent for nearly two months. It wasn't because Nice was done with him, and it wasn't Wreck who Treeman replaced, but rather Nice himself. Nice, who to Treeman and the public was just a brand, not a person.
Nice had been dead for weeks and no one had said anything. Not the media, not Treeman, not the person who must have found his body. No one even told Wreck, and he was Nice's best friend. And that aside, they'd been performing like this for 6 years. Did Treeman really think he wouldn't notice something was off?
Furious at Treeman for pushing Nice past his limits and going so far as to replace Nice with an identical lookalike, Wreck turned the staged fight into a real one. The fake Nice (Lin Ling) and Moon worked together, ironically just as in sync as the real Nice and Wreck had been. But in the end, Lin Ling as Nice landed a punch square in Wreck's face, and Wreck fell from the elevated platform of earth he himself had created. And he lives.

When presented with a choice, is the character more likely to stick with tried and true methods? Or make something new up on the fly?
Wreck will initially try something he knows will work, but the moment it doesn't, he'll immediately shift to the mindset of creating a new solution. Whether as an idol or as a villain, he's almost always "performing."
What is more important to your character, preserving the past or forging a future?
Both are deeply important to Wreck, but one of the foundational reasons he chose to sign his villain contract with Treeman was to build a future together with Nice. He's always striving for that distant, happy ending that's always just out of his reach.
How does your character influence their own story? What about the stories of others?
For his own story, he's a mix of being passive, such as him allowing his identity to essentially be taken from him, and self-sabotaging, such as destroying his career by exiting as an idol for the sake of Nice. For others, he acted as a stepping stone for Nice to boost his popularity, which in turn boosted Nice's strength. He was able to play his role of a villain in a way where the crowd didn't even seem to dislike him - rather, they were entertained by his "rivalry" with Nice, a skill Wreck developed from being an idol in the first place.
Are you alright with your character’s canon being used as a Recommended Reading?: Yes, please do 🙏
